We all have something that gets us pumped up and ready to take on the world. It's time to leverage that for when you need it the most.
I have been using this inadvertently since I was a kid. Whenever I didn't want to do something(usually cleaning my room), I would pop in my favorite song, jump around for a minute and get to work. I believe it was Tony Robbins who says "motion creates emotion." To this day, I still play music before cleaning. Only now, it includes dancing with vacuums and mops, shaking it while washing dishes and busting out a mean solo while putting my clothes in the dryer. It's nice to know that some things never change.
Although I say "video," I mean anything that gets you psyched up: video, music, quotes, images, whatever gets your juices flowing. You will know when you find the right one, because it will trigger a very real physical and chemical reaction inside of you. For me, it creates either a rush of endorphins or an intense drive to do as much as possible right then and there. If you have never felt this before, then you are in for a real treat when you find your first one.
Make a point to collect as many as possible. Every time you come across one, save it and add it to your collection. As great as these are, each one has a short lifespan. The average person can only use this technique one to two times a day and one video will only work for a limited number of times.
Right now, I have a collection of thirty videos that I rotate through each month. I combine that with a rotating screen saver on my computer that scrolls through motivational images and quotes. I find that the quotes inspire me to do something great and the videos increase my drive to accomplish it. It's my one-two punch for an instant boost in productivity.
If you need a place to start, I suggest going on YouTube and searching for motivational videos. There are tons of them, and it will be more than enough to get you started. I created a list of my favorite ones at www.ExcellingAtLife.com/extras. Once you begin, you will find yourself making a mental note of the things you come across that invoke those feelings inside of you. You may respond to videos of inspirational talks, athletic achievements, scenes from movies or even Disney songs.
That last one may just be me, but what can I say, "Hakuna Matata!"
Try it for yourself:
Go on YouTube and find five videos that inspire you to do something great. You can try searching for your terms like "motivation", "inspiration" or "advice." Each day during the week, watch one of
